The Lansing Educational Foundation sponsors an annual breakfast to honor students and teachers for their exemplary accomplishments in the previous year. Funds raised at this event are used to support the many projects of the Foundation. Guest speakers are invited to promote diligence in learning and citizenship. Previous speakers included former Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius.
Mr. Wayne Simien, Jr. was the guest speaker for this year. Mr. Simien related some of his high school experiences. He remembered being challenged by one of his teachers and coaches because of some of the people with whom he was associating. At the time he was not very receptive to the message. However, after thinking about it he understood and "got the message". Each of us will be confronted with people who will challenge us to be our best or be our worst. He recommended that we all opt for the former. It will lead to a more rewarding and fulfilling life.
